Industrial Know-How
Benjamin Franklin said he invented things because he was lazy. "Necessity is the Mother of Invention". He found the most elegant solution to real problems, but did not have the drive to commercialize them.
Thomas Edison said that invention was 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. His heavy handed drive to commercialization characterized the growth of the American industrial powerhouse. Nowadays, such folks are knocked off and undersold by generics that do not carry the cost of such committee-driven research efforts.
George Washington Carver knew his subjects inside and out. He uncovered every possible use for the peanut, yet did not have the business connections to make them reality.
Albert Einstein said "Imagination is more important than knowledge". He is revered by scientists and engineers. Yet, how many times have you needed a Quantum Mechanic in your daily life?
