Welcome to the Blarneywood Forest archive!

Hello.  This website is not really meant to be public, but I have an urgent need to put my findings on record, to set things straight -- just in case.  There's immortality in a Google cache, and I have some concerns for my personal safety.

Why am I poking my nose where it doesn't belong?  I didn't start out investigating this odd little community, and the events that have taken place here, but the scientist in me wouldn't let it go, once I realized there was something unexplained here.  I don't believe in the unexplainable.  Unfortunately, such inquiries almost always tend to have Consequences, so I must be careful.

As long as I'm breathing, and not in a coma in the hospital (more about THAT possibility later), the worst threat I see is a lawsuit so...

-- DISCLAIMER -- everything you're reading here is a work of fiction, the names have been changed to protect the innocent (especially ME), and so forth.  On the other hand, if I turn up unexpectedly dead, you'll have to sort out what's really going on for yourself.

Who am I and how did I get involved?  Allow me to introduce myself, Gerald T. Keep, PhD, Physical Chemist from Stanford University.  I've worked for Industry, resigned, done a little teaching, and helped out in the local schools at science fairs.  Check out the musical instruments I helped some kids invent by clicking HERE, then come back with the "BACK" button on your browser.  By the way, that Alice, and the one in Blarneywood are not the same person, despite some similarities.  Really.

Anyway, I was asked to judge a science competition at a little school up in the Appalachian mountains and of course I jumped at the chance.  And so it was I first made the acquaintance of the Young Rangers group in Blarneywood.  But first I had to find the place, which turned out to be harder than I thought (click HERE for the rest of that story, then hit "BACK").

Anyway, while I was there, I gained access to the notes left behind by the former science teacher at Blarneywood and was intrigued by what had been happening there.  With a little investigation, I was able to look up a number of these kids, now young adults, and interview them about their remarkable experiences in the Young Ranger program.  This lead me to Doc's laboratory where I learned much more.  I've uncovered a number of sources that I'm not yet willing to share -- let me just say I've been privy to a "fairy's-eye-view" of what has gone on the last twenty years or so.  But it's all so spotty and sketchy.  I need to get it sorted out in my head.  I need to draw on my scientific training and get this all organized.

Where to begin?  I guess with the Young Ranger program that hosted the science fair that brought me to Blarneywood.  Not the ones there now, but the charter members of unit WV-BW-C.

I couldn't even tell you which of those seven Young Rangers was the ringleader -- it seemed to depend on circumstances.  So I'll let you read about them all.  I've put in little stories to let you know something about their characters.

  MEET THE YOUNG RANGERS

But the character that is central to the entire drama, is Doc --  Doctor Ashok Gupta.  Patron extraordinaire, who helped found and lead the unit on it's bizarre quest of discovery.  Here is as much of his curriculum vita as I could reconstruct.

   DOC'S BACKGROUND

Below this point, my further entries will be in two parts.  The first block will be an organized databases of the things I've learned.  Lessons, puzzles, and clues given to the Young Ranges by Doc, as well as some of my own detective work.  The second block will be a stream of stories as I unearth and make sense of them one by one.  Ultimately, you may have to be  to one to put it all together.
